The Good Servant: Making Peace With the Bomb at Los Alamos
Published in Hardcover by Simon & Schuster (September, 1995)
Author: Janet Bailey
Average review score:

A series of wonderful essays somehow in search of a book.
I like this author and the book, but between picking the title and writing the book the focus got lost. If you want to read about Los Alamos and the end of the cold war, this really isn't the book. The good news, is that if you want to read some great essays by a really good science writer (quite rare) buy this book anyway - then imagine what she will do when she finds a subject whose story she can tell.

Gordon Loggins and the Three Bears
Published in Hardcover by Kids Can Press (October, 1997)
Authors: Linda Bailey and Tracy Walker
Average review score:

Gordon Loggins is just right.
Gordon Loggins and the three bears was a hit with my children. I am always on the search for a great "fractured fairy tale" to read to my students and this one was definitely a great find! Gordon Loggins fills in for Goldilocks when she is missing in the story "Goldilocks and the three bears", during story time at the library. He is not only a hit with the children listening to the story but gains the approval of the three bears themselves. What child or adult doesn't love to "jump" into a book!

The Great San Francisco Trivia & Fact Book
Published in Paperback by Cumberland House (June, 1999)
Author: Janet Bailey
Average review score:

Interesting book filled with many fun facts
This book contains a lot of interesting historic facts and trivia about the city of San Francisco. The book is divided into different sections, and keeps the short anectodes in chronological order, from the 1850's until today. I recommend this book to anyone who wants a light, fun-filled book about San Francisco history.

Greece (Where We Live)
Published in Library Binding by Steck-Vaughn Library Div (April, 1990)
Authors: Jenny Vaughan, Donna Bailey, and Gill Tomblin
Average review score:

A first look for young readers at how kids live in Greece
The "Where We Live" series is intended for younger elementary school students. This little book on "Greece" introduces young readers to Christina and her family, who live in a village near Athens. We learn about the vegetables her family grows and how they take care of their sheep. The Christina visits her uncle, a fisherman who also catches octopus and squid. Half the book is devoted to how Christina's family looks forward to Easter and young readers will be interested in seeing how the holiday is celebrated by the Greek Orthodox faith. They will see the special foods that are prepared for the big Easter feast as well as the religious ceremonies involved. The book is illustrated with photographs as well as some paintings by Gill Tomblin. "Greece" does not go into a lot of detail, but does give young readers a sense for what life is like for someone their own age in another country, which is obviously the point of this series. Note: This book, which is essentially a first step lesson in Greek culture, was previously published as "We live in Greece."

Hamilton Bailey: A Surgeon's Life
Published in Hardcover by Greenwich Medical Media (01 March, 1999)
Author: Adrian Marston
Average review score:

biography of a mesmerizing figure....
How can you imagine that a surgeon, who was born more than a hundred years ago, managed to have his name preserved in surgical textbooks still bearing his name nowadays? "Hamilton Bailey " is such a legendary name. Bailey never had the manual dexterity required for a surgeon. Early in his career, he got abscess of the hand which led to the amputation of his left index finger (as was the treatment in the pre-antibiotic era). He was poor at socialising and he was never welcome by patients and colleagues. He even had intractable manic-depressive illness and had a close shave from leucotomy. The secret of his tremendous productivity in textbook writing must be indebted, at least in part, to his wife Veta. This book is very enjoyable to read ... the only difficulty for me is to overcome the tons of unfamiliar names and places!

How to Protect Yourself Against Cops in California and Other Strange Places: A Guide for Businessmen and Other Innocent Travelers, in 50 States and W
Published in Hardcover by Stein & Day Pub (October, 1982)
Author: F. Lee Bailey
Average review score:

Interesting book on police ignorance/brutality & DUI facts
While the specifics of state-to-state law are outdated (written 1982), this book follows Bailey's experience as an innocent driver arrested, jailed, and taken to trial for drunk driving. Explores ignorant and power-mad police behavior. Bailey was on trial for three weeks for what ultimately amounted to blowing a stop sign. Provides interesting tips for travelers who are wrongly accused of driving under the influence that are still helpful, regardless of some specifics being outdated

Average review score:

Games to Bond By
This is a delightful book full of activities and games that involve touch, with the goal of bringing adult and child closer together in a warm, healthy relationship. It also serves as a terrific reminder that children and the time spent with them are ultimately more important than our busy schedules and to-do lists. The easy-to-read format, with its large print and animated illustrations, makes it inviting.

Illinois State Parks: A Guide to Illinois State Parks
Published in Paperback by Glovebox Guidebooks of Amer (May, 1995)
Authors: Bill Bailey and William L. Bailey
Average review score:

Great Guidebook
Illinois State Parks's Guidebook is a great resource of information divulging a wealth of information. This is a great source for readers who are not familiar with the parks, offering a brief history of the park, detailed information about the facilities and available activities, and park maps. The book however does not appear to be totally complete, as some parks have been omitted from the book. In addition, the book seems to be biased to activities which the author has an interest in, rather than being comprehensive coverage. Overall, it is a good book to have as a reference for day trips throughout the state.
